Sunday School Opening Day

This past Sunday was a joyful beginning to a new Sunday School year. Our Sunday School Opening Day brought our children together during our bilingual worship service for their first lesson of the year, along with some very special visitors.
The theme of our first lesson was the creation of the world. The children learned how God created the heavens and the earth, the plants and trees, the sun, moon and stars, and all the creatures that share this beautiful world with us. We also talked about how God called His creation good and how we are called to appreciate and care for the world and its creatures.

The lesson became especially memorable when we welcomed Mrs. Katie Nordhaus from the Franklin Township Animal Shelter. She brought several animal visitors for the children to meet, including kittens, a dog, and even a snake! The animals provided a wonderful connection to our lesson. After learning about God creating all living creatures, the children had the opportunity to see some of them up close, ask questions, and learn about caring for animals.

There was plenty of excitement as the children met our furry—and not-so-furry—visitors. It was a fun and meaningful way to help them see that the story of creation is not only something we read about in the Bible. God’s creation is all around us, and we have the privilege and responsibility of caring for it.
Our Opening Day was a wonderful reminder of what we hope Sunday School will be throughout the coming year: a place where children can learn about God, ask questions, experience the joy of faith, build friendships, and know that they are an important part of our church family.
After Sunday School, the children headed downstairs to the Fellowship Hall, where they joined their families and the rest of the congregation for our Church Family Picnic. It was a wonderful way to continue a special Sunday together.
We are grateful to Mrs. Katie Nordhaus, our Sunday School teachers and helpers, our parents and families, and everyone who helped make our Opening Day so memorable.
We look forward to another year of learning and growing together with Jesus!
