THE CHURCH
Learn about who we are—our rich history and beliefs, evolving vision, and the people who help make it all possible. From becoming a member to connecting with our dedicated support team or exploring venue hire, this is where tradition meets purpose and possibility.
For over a century, the Magyar Reformed Church of New Brunswick has been a home of faith, heritage, and community. Hungarian immigrants first gathered for worship in 1900, and in 1905 the congregation was formally incorporated. By 1916, the sanctuary was dedicated, and over the years the church grew, adding a parsonage, school, and ministries for children and youth. The 1920s and ’30s saw rapid growth and renewal, and in 1943 the congregation celebrated becoming debt-free. In the 1950s and ’60s, new bells, a pipe organ, and outreach to Hungarian refugees marked a period of care and generosity, while the first Hungarian Festival in 1975 became a cherished tradition.

Later decades brought sanctuary renovations, expanded programs, and digital ministry, while the 2009 re-dedication and the 2015 centennial highlighted our enduring legacy. Today, over 110 years since our incorporation, this sacred space continues to nurture worship, fellowship, and service—a living testament to the devotion, resilience, and faith of generations, welcoming all to join in its unfolding story.

Step into the story of our sacred community, where faith, tradition, and craftsmanship come together to form a lasting legacy. Our church stands as a testament to generations of believers who built, nurtured, and preserved this sacred space. From the warmth of its wooden pews to the brilliance of its stained-glass windows, every corner tells a story of dedication, hope, and enduring love. It is not just a building; it is a living home of worship, reflection, and gathering—a place where the past meets the present and where all are welcome to be part of our unfolding story.
As you explore the rich history of our church, you will discover the hands and hearts that shaped this sacred place. Each stone, each beam, and each window carries the memory of those who came before us, preserving their faith and passing it forward. From the earliest settlers who laid its foundation to the community that sustains it today, our church is woven into the fabric of generations. It is a story of faithfulness, resilience, and beauty that continues to inspire, welcoming you to be part of this cherished legacy.

2025
As we look to the future, the Magyar Reformed Church is embracing a thoughtful path forward for the next decade. Our renewed vision focuses on deepening our spiritual life, celebrating our heritage, nurturing a strong and welcoming community, and securing long-term financial stability through faithful stewardship.
We’ve identified four central themes - The Four Pillars - that will guide our path forward:

-
Faith – Rooted in the gospel and strengthened through worship and teaching.
-
Family – Building a loving church family across all backgrounds and ages.
-
Tradition – Celebrating our unique Hungarian Reformed heritage and historical foundation.
-
Stewardship - We are committed to thoughtful financial stewardship through responsible fundraising and wise investments, ensuring our church’s mission and ministry continue to grow and serve for generations to come.

This plan will guide our decisions, help us set clear priorities, and track our progress as we look ahead to 120 years of the Magyar Reformed Church.

From The Beginning
Statement of Faith
WE BELIEVE that all Creation exists by the will of God, and people are meant to enjoy a living relationship of trust with God the Creator.
WE BELIEVE that the essential nature of God is love — a love that reaches out to all people, inviting them back into relationship with Him.
WE BELIEVE that God's love was made incarnate in Jesus Christ. Through His life, death, and resurrection, God secured victory over sin and death and provided the way for our relationship with Him to be restored.
WE BELIEVE that each person is free to accept or reject God's offer of redemption and new life in Christ. Choosing reconciliation with God is a personal response to His invitation.

WE BELIEVE that the Church is the family of believers. We are united in our desire to live for Christ and do the will of God together.

WE BELIEVE that the Bible is the written record of God's revelation to the world. It is our authority for faith and practice, and we trust in Christ’s return to bring God's kingdom and end all suffering.
Our Mission
Our mission is to live in joyful relationship with God and others, sharing the Good News of new life in Christ. As Jesus taught, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart… and love your neighbor as yourself.” Grounded in this calling, we strive to worship faithfully and reflect His love through service, fellowship, and compassion. As a bilingual American-Hungarian community, we welcome all who seek to grow in faith and walk together in grace.
Vision
We envision a vibrant, growing church that reaches beyond its walls to impact our community and the world. As we look to the future, we are dedicated to expanding our ministries, creating opportunities for connection, and inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to experience God’s love. Our hope is to be a beacon of faith, service, and hospitality—a church where new generations can discover purpose, grow in discipleship, and build lasting relationships.
Values
Our church is built on a foundation of core values that shape who we are and how we serve. We value Christ-centered worship, authentic community, compassionate outreach, and lifelong spiritual growth. We are committed to welcoming all people with kindness and respect, fostering unity through diversity, and demonstrating integrity in all that we do. These values guide our steps as we seek to glorify God and love one another well.
SUPPORT TEAM
Our non-executive support staff play a vital role in the life and mission of our church. Their dedication and hard work help sustain our ministries and daily operations. We are grateful for their faithful service.
